Arsenal legend fancies Liverpool going on to win the Premier League title

Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes Liverpool can make the push for the Premier League title this season after missing out to Manchester City by the slimmest of margins last term. The Reds accumulated a record club tally of 97 points last season, but that was not sufficient to hand them a maiden Premier League title with the Citizens outclassing them by the single point.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Wright said that the Reds will have learnt from the previous campaign where they were guilty of dropping points in the form of draws, he said: “What I’m seeing from Liverpool this season, I have to say Man City are magnificent, Liverpool will have to learn from the slip up against Leicester and when City lost to Newcastle. At the end of the day, they lost the league by a point and what I’m making of this, is that what Liverpool learnt from last season is how important it is to not drop points when you have the opportunity to win games at home, that’s what it’s going to come down to.”

The Reds have made a stunning start to the season with a 4-1 triumph over Norwich City at Anfield but that has been improved by Manchester City and Manchester United. Still, the latter of those clubs are unexpected to compete for the title and it could remain a tussle between the Reds and the Citizens for the Premier League crown once more.

Meanwhile, the top four race could be intense this time around with both United and Arsenal appearing in better shape than the previous campaign. Tottenham Hotspur have been widely touted to secure the third spot but there cannot take things lightly with United and Arsenal determined to make the Champions League push after finishing sixth and fifth respectively last term. Chelsea are also expected to remain in the mix, but there are question marks whether they can make the top four amidst the transfer ban, which has prevented them from making new signings.
