Mesut Ozil has confirmed that he has no interest in breaking Thierry Henry’s record

Mesut Ozil has confirmed that he has no interest in breaking Thierry Henry’s record of 20 assists in a Premier league season.

He says were winning the league title has more precedence to this record. Ozil is the club’s record signing after having cost an incredible £ 42.5 million following his move from Real Madrid a few years ago. After his initial struggles at the Emirates stadium, Ozil is starting to make a huge impact in the Arsenal team whenever he steps on the pitch. This impact most often occurs in an indirect fashion with Ozil playing a part in each goal.

So far, he has created 18 assists in the league and there is every chance of the German going past Henry’s record with nine games still left in the season. However, Ozil says that he has only the title on his mind. After being knocked out of the FA Cup and Champions League in back-to-back games, Arsenal are left to focus on the league. However, they face an unlikely battle to win the title from the clutches of Leicester City or Tottenham. The 2015-16 title is seen as a two-way battle between these two teams. Leicester have a five-point advantage over Spurs, who are a further six points ahead of Arsenal.

"I don't play the game to smash records.I know what I can do and I know that I'm one of the best assist makers in the world, but it's all about titles for me. If I have a great season but we don't win anything, what does it bring me? I don't have to be loud, I don't have to slate people in the dressing room. It's the same on the pitch. When you're always there for the team, when you're playing every week, you become a leader,” said Ozil.
