PUYOL MOVING ON

Carles Puyol revealed that his career with Barcelona will be reaching its end when this season concludes. At his 35 years of age, Puyol is no longer able to perform like some years ago and after making over 350 appearances for Barcelona, he has decided that it’s enough.

The future of Puyol still remains uncertain as he has not announced whether or not he will continue playing at another club or will simply hang up his boots and retire but Thierry Henry stated that he would welcome the Spanish defender at New York Red Bulls.

"If he wants to come and play in the United States then he would be very welcome. Should he want to come it would be great. It would be good for the league because it is always good to have players like him. He is an intelligent person and I am sure that he knows what he wants to do," Puyol said.

Thierry Henry and Carles Puyol used to play together when the French forward was a player of Barcelona in 2007 and Henry is well aware of what Puyol has to offer for the team he plays in even at his age.

"Puyol trains exactly like he plays as he always gives everything. I remember the game in the Bernabeu when we won 6-2 and he scored with his head and kissed the captain's armband. It was a very special moment." Henry added.

Didier Drogba’s contract with Galatasaray expires at the end of the season and he will become a free agent. Even though there still are a few months remaining until Drogba is released from the Turkish club, he has already received interest from 2 of the Major League Soccer’s biggest clubs, New York Red Bulls and the Seattle Sounders.

Henry also stated that he would like Didier Drogba to join him at the New York Red Bulls but with so many MLS clubs interested in signing the Ivorian striker, it still remains unclear where his next football destination will be.
